Nordzucker AG (Braunschweig), Cristal Union (Paris) and ED&F Man (London) are pleased to announce the combination of each partners European trading activities in a new, jointly owned trading company, EUROSUGAR. Under EU competition laws, the creation of EUROSUGAR has been submitted to the European Commission under EU merger control regulation on the 22nd of April.


Dr. Ulrich Nohle, Chairman of the Board of Nordzucker said - For the three partners, the creation of EUROSUGAR represents a forward-looking strategy which will involve over 21,000 beet growers in the most competitive areas of Europe, and is a logical response to the significant changes which will take place under the new Sugar Market Regulations.

Alain Commissaire, Managing Director of Cristal Union said - The creation of EUROSUGAR will enable us to provide an efficient and high-quality service to our European customers in a market which is changing rapidly.

Rafael Muguiro, Chief Executive Officer of ED&F Man, said - ED&F Man is pleased to bring its international experience in logistics and supply/demand dynamics to this exciting new business.

EUROSUGAR's headquarters will be in Paris, from where it will be responsible for handling around 2.5 million tonnes of European sugar, and will play an active role in marketing ACP, EBA and other sugars. The new company will be the second largest distributor in the European market.

EUROSUGAR will be owned equally by the three partners.
